MARGARET MANSON, President
Margaret Manson joined the Board of Sampradaya Dance Creations in 1999. She has served as Board President since 2000 and works closely with Lata Pada, Artistic Director, to support the Company's growth and development. Current development plans include expanding SDC's touring program in Canada and fostering international exchange in contemporary and traditional bharatanatyam.
Margaret is completing doctoral studies at the University of Toronto , researching the role of integrated arts practices in the professional development of teachers. She holds a part time teaching position in the Faculty of Education, York University . Prior to moving to Toronto in 1995, Margaret coordinated education and outreach programs for eight years at The Wolf Trap Foundation, a performing arts organization in Vienna , Virginia . During this time she also served as President of the Virginia Alliance for Arts Education (1992-95) and as a member of the Arts-in-Education Advisory Panel of the Virginia Commission for the Arts (1991-94).
HARI VENKATACHARYA, Director
Hari is currently President and Chief Executive Officer of CYRCA, a company specializing in providing solutions to corporations to protect confidential and sensitive information. CYRCA has offices in Toronto, Ontario, San Jose, California and Bangalore, India . Hari is an entrepreneur with over a decade of extensive experience in building companies, corporate strategy and partnerships.
He was previously a Senior Vice President of Kasten Chase, a leading public Information Technology security company. He was also President and Chairman of Karthika Technologies, a privately held encryption company. Hari co-founded, and was the driving force behind, the South Asian advisory committee at the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto .
Hari has been nominated for the 2004 Canada's Top 40 Under 40 Award, recognizing outstanding leaders in Canada's business and not for profit sector. Hari is a Charter Member of The Indus Entrepreneurs and a member of the Board of Directors of the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences. He also spends time mentoring entrepreneurs and young companies achieve their strategic goals and operational success.
LYNDA CLARK,
Director
Lynda Clark is a senior arts professional who has played many roles in the Canadian arts milieu. She has been a presenter - Director of Performing Arts at the Living Arts Centre, Mississauga, a producer - Harbourfront Centre, a small business owner - Kids' Entertainment, and an artist - classical, voice. Currently, she practices as a consultant and works with a wide range of organizations across Canada.

Jazz saxophonist and singer, Sundar Viswanathan's close association with music began from the tender age of two. His explorations have taken him through many genres, ranging from rock and roll to world and classical music, and to many locales, from Boston and Calgary to Mumbai and Tokyo. He holds a Masters and Ph.D in Jazz from New England Conservatory and New York University respectively, and was recently appointed Assistant Professor of Jazz Studies in the Department of Music at York University in Toronto, where he makes his home.
Sundar has shared the world stage with local and international artists alike over his 20 years as a professional musician. In a recent successful five-city tour of Japan, Sundar was featured as a leader with exceptional Japanese musicians. Other performances that proved rewarding included those at New York's ‘Alice Tully Hall', ‘The Blue Note' and ‘Birdland'; the ‘Montreal Bistro', ‘Living Arts Center' and ‘Rex Hotel' in Toronto, and the famous ‘Wally's' and ‘Willow Jazz Club' in Boston. Some of his musical associations include Wynton Marsalis, Kenny Wheeler, John Abercrombie, Terry Clarke, Joe Lovano, John Hicks, Billy Hart and Dave Douglas.
Currently, Sundar is in the process of releasing an album of original music inspired by South Asian music and Jazz that features heavy-hitters from the Canadian scene. He has been the recipient of a number of Canada Council for the Arts study and performance grants, as well as various honors from independent and academic institutions in the USA . He is pleased to share his experiences and work with other members of the Sampradaya Board of Directors
RAVI KUMAR, Director
Ravi Kumar, Vice President, Canadian operations, Skylink Travel Group, has been in the corporate travel industry for 25 years. His management experience includes responsibilities and achievements in operations, human resources, business development and supplier relations, finance, account management and consulting. Ravi began his career in the travel industry in Colombo, Sri Lanka, his home country, before moving to Montreal for ten years, and then to Toronto, where he resides with his wife Rajani.
Currently Ravi Kumar oversees the SkyLink Group’s operations in Canada, with particular responsibility for introducing state of the art booking engines and enhancing client satisfaction and retention. Ravi is also a member of the Program Advisory Committee (PAC) for the Travel and Tourism program of Centennial College, Toronto.
Prior to joining SkyLink, Ravi Kumar was the General Manager at Rosenbluth International in Canada before it was acquired by American Express. He has also held management positions at American Express, Thomas Cook and Air France.
Ravi Kumar is as much at home in the arts as he is in corporate. He has been very closely associated with classical South Indian dance and music from an early age. He gained deep insights into the creative arts, while helping his father in bharatanatyam dance creations and documentary productions. Ravi facilitated the release of a set of music CDs of Meenakshi Kalyanam, a South Indian dance ballet in Tamil that was produced in the seventies.
Ravi was the Business Manager for the production of a video poem, At The Still Point, and has made valuable contributions to documentary films, Journey and Anklet, sponsored by the Worldview International Foundation of Oslo, Norway. Ravi has helped the Development Communication Group of Ryerson University in the organization and logistics of an International Seminar on Development Communication, and recently was key in obtaining corporate sponsorships for the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO) and Sampradaya Dance Creations. Ravi’s immense artistic sensibility combined with his keen sense of business make him a very valuable addition to the Board. |
